Would myringotomy tubes in ears help with weather triggered Migraines?

Ask the Clinician Health Pro
  • Full Question:

    The barometric pressure seems to be my biggest headache trigger. My ears pop numerous times when a front moves in. Imitrex helps, but makes me very groggy. I wondered if there are any other treatments for barometric pressure besides medication. Is there anything that suggests that myringotomy tubes help stabilize pressure to prevent headaches? Thank you. Cheryl.

    Answer:

    Dear Cheryl;

    Don’t know about myringotomy tubes as a treatment, but not sleeping flat (i.e., head of bed up about 20 degrees seems to help folks with barometric pressure headaches.

    Of course there are medications such as Diamox as well.
