I am 54 yr. old and live in Northern Minnesota. I have experienced migraines since my early teens. They have increased and intensified over the years. I have seen a number of neurologists and have taken many preventative medications (with no success yet). I do have success with a current abortive medication (most of the time), but can only take it twice a week. I have back-up medications, urgent care or the local emergency room if nothing works. My question is regarding possible next steps for consultation. I am wondering if there are any well-respected, migraine specialists I could consider that would possibly not involve air travel (a cost factor). I have been to the Mayo Clinic and it was VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!! Since my mid-thirties, my monthly headache rate is anywhere from 10-15 depending on medications, triggers, etc. Although there are many times I feel like giving up, I continue to think there MUST be an answer out there somewhere that would improve my situation some. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you, Sue.
First of all, good for you for knowing not to give up! That's truly half the battle. You're quite right that the answer IS out there, and continuing to work toward an effective treatment regimen will pay off.
The listing of specialists we maintain is based on the recommendations of patients. Although we don't have an actual Migraine specialist in Minnesota who has been recommended to us, hopefully, there's one in a neighboring state for you. You can find names and contact information in our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.
