Migraine Expressions book available soon!

By betsyb Tuesday, June 17, 2008

After this past year of hard work and with artistic and written contributions from migraineurs around the world and people who love them, the book, Migraine Expressions, is almost here! The anticipated availability date is July 14 and thanks to many of you and several migraine experts and bloggers who contributed work, the book has exceeded my every expectation. Our hope is that people with migraine will identify with the insightful personal expressions, and people without migraine will gain further awareness and understanding of it.

Teri Robert graciously provided a foreword for the book, and I'm beginning to receive wonderful feedback from other professionals in the migraine world. Please visit www.wordmetropress.com for more information. There is a special pre-publication price available for a limited time.

The book includes courageous and honest art, poetry, photography, and essays from people impacted by migraine in the U.S., several in Canada, and a few in the U.K., France, and Australia; an index of contributors; and Resources - Web sites of numerous helpful organizations and blogs.

My thanks and cheers to migraine survivors everywhere -- we will persevere.

Thanks, Eileen! On Tuesday I attended a migraine lecture by a local neurologist board-certified in headache disorders who mentioned much of what is included in the book about the lack of attention and research for migraine and other headache disorders. I didn't realize that board certification for physicians in headache has been available for only two years - he said he is one of only 100 in the country! He spoke of the lack of knowledge, training, and understanding of migraine and headache that many physicians have, so I hope this book will be useful in that regard, as well as a beautiful companion for migraineurs and our loved ones.

Oh Thank you, Thank you!

I can't wait to share this with people who really have NO IDEA what we migraine survivors go through...... and to read it again often as a gentle reminder to myself that I don't suffer alone.   It will also be a loving gift to my closest fellow sufferers.  Thank you for an effective visual that will lead to better communication and understanding among all those somehow touched by migraine.     I'm ordering several now at great rates!

Thanks Again,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,deb

Dear Betsy,

This is the first I've heard about a book being published with art-work also. I have used the Migraine websites for years and enjoyed the interesting artwork that migraines have inspired in peoples minds. I have such a connection with many of the pictures and paintings that I only wish I could personally convey with pen and paper. Perhaps at times I am able to express verbally the anguish attached to this invisible "fake" disease that I use to get attention. How sad anyone would believe that to be true. I would not wish the experience on any one even to share the pain it involves.

I am anxious to investigate the website mentioned and see if I may locate a copy of the book to add to my growing library of migraine books. My husband asked me once if I was a doctor with all the books on the shelves. I have everything from alternative help to migraine clinics. I have been in several double-blind studies, and tried numerous treatments.   I am almost 51 and the migraines have increased with age.

Thank you for sharing your interest in our pain and a book to express what we feel and to support the reality of such a dibalitating disease. I have lost so many days and hours to this horrible disorder and so many people just do not understand at all. I have a 16 yr old son who has seen me go through every bizarre thing imaginable. I would like to live at least a few years without this agony. I feel such sympathy and empathy for those like me and love websites such as this. We definately will stick together and help find a cure or something to help ease the stress of not being alone.

Let us all stick together for a cure, and know we are not alone. You are one person who has made a difference. Thank you from the top of my head to the back of my neck.

   Sincerely, Jonee'

Dear Jonee,

Thank you for your response - I'm sorry to hear that your migraines are getting worse! I'm 55 and mine are finally starting to improve a little bit. I just read an article saying that the worst for most people is between the ages of 15 and 55 - that seems to fit for me and I'm hoping 55 is a bit of a magic age. Maybe it will be for you as well!

You can find a bit more about the book, Migraine Expressions, at my Web site, and I have started a blog, also, as a companion to the book.

You are right, and I love your expression: "Let us all stick together for a cure"! I am wishing all the best for you, and let's keep in touch.

Thank you,

Betsy
