Well I have been seeing and speaking with my neurologist as frequently as possible lately, as my headache has persisted on (It started Sep. 17th, its been almost a month now). I have reviewed my current symptoms with him, and as it turns out he has leaned towards me having cluster headaches. My symptoms have been consistent with those of the "typical" cluster sufferer, and I have started to find my situation more and more frustrating as the time goes on. Oh well, guess I just have to keep fighting it. I am currently on my second taper of prednisone as well as sumitriptan nasal spray, which seems to be helping more than the ergots did at the beginning. Since starting on the triptans again I stopped taking my regular 5-HTP to avoid interaction and my body seems to be handling it ok so far. This is quite different than my "normal" migraines were in the past and wish it would just go away already!

If your doctor isn’t able to help you, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It’s important to note that neurologists aren’t necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Cluster headaches have been described as some of the most painful type of headaches there are. The burning, stabbing, boring pain has been described as "suicide headache" and for more information continue reading this article: Cluster Headaches - The Basics.
