By Steve85 Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Today I am off to The New England Center for Headache! I am so excited to move forward in my treatment I just thought I'd share my enthusiasm with everyone! Its been two months now in this cycle of constant headaches so this trip should be the start of some relief for me! Best wishes to everyone!

Hi Steve:

I hope your first meeting is very productive and that you like and trust your headache specialist.  And I hope you are able to find some answers and treatment/approaches that reduce the frequency and severity of your migraines.

Please do keeep us posted, and perhaps something that you learn will help another person afflicted with migraines.  It is great that you have an optimistic attitude!!!!

Well my first visit with Dr. Sheftell was very productive! He confirmed my neurologists suspicion of me having cluster headaches Cry after being 2 months into my cycle. I am now taking Verapramil and Cafergot on a regular daily basis in addition to my Keppra and Topamax, and he has also prescribed oxygen through a rebreather mask for me to use to treat the attacks. Hopefully this cycle can be broken soon and it will go into remission for quite some time, he's pretty confident that it will. I was thoroughly impressed with how well he and his office staff treated me and my girlfriend when we arrived and how caring they all were, it was a breath of fresh air to meet a doctor that actually understood the difficulties of treating severe headaches. Hope everyone else is well!

Hi Steve:

Thanks for sharing your visit, and also the regimen that Dr. Sheftell is recommending to you.  It truly might help someone else on this site who does not have access to a headache specialist.  They can take your info (and results) and share them with their "accessible" physician in hopes of getting better care.  It might also encourage their local MD to do some reading.

It is terrific the the staff and Dr. Sheftell treated you and your girlfriend professionally and with empathy.  It is so refreshing to hear.  I hope and pray that this regimen will work wonders and that your quality of life will improve tremendously.  Keep us posted if you dont mind, because others in your situation may learn from this vital experience.  Happy Thanksgiving!
