will taking amitriptylin help my migrane

My doctor seemed to think it would help me, but after several months of taking it at night, starting at 25 mg and ending at 100 it hadn't made a bit of difference. And it made me gain weight!

Hi Rick!
You would have to try out Amitriptyline to see if it helps you. It usually takes about 6 weeks or so to give a medication a fair chance at working.
There are over 100 medications currently being used as preventive migraine treatment.
If you are not currently on preventive medication, but you get migraines 3-4 times a month, then you would be a candidate for preventive treatment options.
