Q: How do I find out about Trial Studies in NYC ... I'd love to participate.. who knows, maybe I'll find a fix after 40+ years of weekly, often daily headaches.

Ric,

You can go to http://www.ClinicalTrials.gov and search for Migraine or headache trials in the NYC area.

There are a few things you should consider about trying to use clinical trials to find a "fix" for your headaches...

Clinical trials of new treatments are usually double-blind, which means that half the participants get the treatment, but the other half don't. They get a placebo.

If you're in a trial of a new treatment and get the real treatment, you may not be able to get it for years after the trial becaue it takes at least a couple of years after the trials to get FDA approval of the treatment.

Have you seen an actual Migraine and headache specialist? There are several good ones in the NYC area. It’s important to note that neurologists aren’t necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

I don't mean to discourage you from clinical trials, but they're generally not really the best way to find treatment that works for us.

Welcome again,

Teri
