SearsSteph is Fighting back a headache now. Trying NOT to take a Zomig.
Married 35 yr old mother of two.

Doctor mentioned offhandedly a couple of months ago that we might think about placing me in the hospital for 3 days to get all of the OTC pain medicine and daily Zomig out of my system. Have any of you guys gone thru this? If so, what should I expect from the hospital stay? Do they give you other medicine to help with the headache pain? If so, does that medicine lead to more rebound headaches?? Also, read somewhere that the detox can take 2-14 days. How long did it take you to start feeling better and for the headaches to go away?? Thanks!!

My first real experience with chronic head pain...

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Hi SearsSteph,

It really varies from doctor to doctor what type of drugs will be given to help relieve  withdrawal symptoms of Medication Overuse Headache. They may administer anti-nausea and anti-anxitey medications during your stay to help with these symptoms.

After you leave the hospital it will be important not to take any pain medications to continue on with the "detox" process. It can take two-10 days for the withdrawal sypmtoms to stop.

Good luck
