Hi jennifer,

No, Tension-Type headache (T-TH) is a primary headache disorder, meaning it is not attributed to any other disorder. However, T-TH may trigger a Migraine attack, and cigarette smoke may be a trigger for some people. Migraine triggers can range from dehydration, chocolate, and hot dogs, to weather changes, sleeping in late and missing a cup of coffee in the morning.  For more information on Migraine triggers you can look at our Migraine trigger page,  HERE

Good luck

Nancy

Hey Jennifer,

I dont know the answer for sure. But I smoked cigarettes 4 years ago and decided to quit because of the impact on my migraines. On the rare occassions that I allow myself to smoke for whatever reason - I always get a headache. And those headaches do feel tension like. If you are wondering whether nicotine has any impact on your headaches, the answer is probably yes.
