Hi Destiny -

I've tried it. Like several other kinds of balms and analgesic rubs, I find it helps somewhat.  I have also used Tiger Balm, Icey-Hot, and Bio-Freeze.  All of them are rather like using an ice-pack, in my experience, they ease the Migraine pain, and I especially like them when the pain is severe or I can't take triptans on that day - so if you're looking for something to use during a MOH cycle, it might be a good one to have in your toolkit.  In my experience it's not going to completely make the pain go away, though.

I used to get bio-freeze at my chiropractor but you can get it on line - through Amazon or Biofreeze.com.

What's an MOH cycle?

MOH is Medication Overuse Headache - also called rebound headache. It is caused by using a pain medication or a Migraine abortive too many days in a row. Here's an explanation: Medication Overuse Headache: What Do You Know?

When in an MOH cylce, we have to stop using the medication for a period of time until our body stops rebounding.

Destiny:  I have not tried Headon, but years ago I tried another " product (applied to forehead) that was a bold lavendar scent.  It did not really help my headaches, but it was somewhat a soothing "distraction."  If you look up Headon on Wikipedia, you will see a writeup about it's history, plus a comment by headache specialist Dr. S. Diamond at the end.

Over the years I have tried many lotions, C Bands, acupressure, acupuncture, heavy water, vitamins, therapeutic massage, along with traditional medications.  During my migraines, traditional medical measures have helped the most.  But, therapeutic massage (after my monthly two-week migraine series) provides great benefits, including keeping away adhesions of my back muscles (and relieving spasms).   Stretching helps, too!  I hope you find some measures that help relieve your pain.

I have one in my purse and often try it before taking an imitrex.  My migraines are actually getting more and more frequent and I hate them!  Who doesn't hate them, right?

Anyone have any other non-pill options?

Thanks and have a great day!

Someone gave me Headon for my migraines. I tried it, but didn't find it helpful. Of course, different things work for different folks. You just have to try things to find out what works for you.

I love it. It doesn't work miracles but I use it every time. ITs amazing for making it more bearable.

I have sensitive skin, so Head On made my forehead break out. Migraine BeKool doesn't make me break out unless I use it more than once a week or so.  My favorite thing to do (other than taking meds) is to wrap an ice cube in a moist paper towel and wrap that in a dry paper towel (keeps the extreme cold from reaching your forehead until after you're more used to the cold).

I do not leave the house with out it. It does not eliminate my migraines. It does, however, lower the intensity 1 to 3 notches for about two hours. This can help me make it thru a day with a normal migraine or just make it home safely with a really bad migraine.

I use it and I like it.  It's soothing, makes the pain a little more bearable. But IT DOES NOT make the migraine go away.  I too carry it in my purse for those times when I can't use anything else.

I first used it when it was offered through Avon before it was available retail in our area.  What I like about it is that it does not contain camphor, like most of the other topicals.  Camphor causes my hands and feet to get cold (a proving in homeopathy or allergic reaction).  It was an immediate rescue when I was taking Triptans so I could try to remain at work.  Now I use it when nothing else is working.  It does seem to cause some soothing or at least relaxation.
