should teens have antinausea medication
He is 14 had migraines since 4th grade. They are now worse in the last 2 years and almost daily not from rebound. Nothing helps and he hates taking pills. Imitrex sometimes works. Elavil didn't help. He doesn't want all the tests that go along with depakote. He is 6'1'' and 130 Lbs. No doctor gets that his stomach hurts at times and he wont eat then and nothing is given for nausea.
Hi Joan,
I'm sorry to hear your son is in so much pain. Your best bet would be to take him to a Migraine specialist. This doctor is an expert in Migraine disease and headache disorders devoting much of their practice to treating patients with these conditions. A neurologist may call himself a headache specialist, but it is really hard for them to be experts in any one area because they treat so many different conditions.
We have a list of patient recommended specialists you can see HERE.
Good luck

Joan,
I'm not a doctor, so this is just my opinion -- Yes, anyone who has problems with nausea should have access to nausea meds. It doesn't make sense to just let him suffer the nausea.
There are many, many preventives other than Elavil and Depakote. I can sympathize with his hating to take meds, but he needs to learn that Migraine is a disease, one he will have for the rest of his life. It needs to be treated.
Good luck,
Teri
