Hi Chris!
Zoloft is used as a Migraine preventive as are many antidepressants. There are many medications currently being used for Migraine prevention. See this article: Migraine Preventive Medications: Too Many Options To Give Up!!. The Zoloft is used to help prevent Migraines, where the Tylenol 3 is what would take away the pain. They are two different forms of medication. One is a preventive, the Zoloft, the other is actually considered a rescue medication. See Preventive, Abortive and Rescue Medications: What's the Difference? That being said, if you have been on the Zoloft for 3 months, and you are not seeing any change in your Migraine frequency, you should talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose or trying something different. It does can take up to 3 months before a preventive may start to work for us.
Have you talked to your doctor about triptans? They are used to abort the Migraine process, where as the Tylenol 3 would just mask the pain for a while, not stop the Migraine process. There are seven triptans currently on the market. If you've tried one or two and they did not work for you, ask your doctor about trying a different one. I tried four before finding one that worked for me.
If you are taking the Tylenol 3 on a regular basis, you could end up with Medication Overuse Headache, aka, Rebound Headache. This happens when taking too much medication (triptans, NSAIDS, narcotics) actually cause a headache. See this article: Medication Overuse Headache: When Remedy Backfires.
Good Luck!
