What preventive medications have the highest efficacy for migraine?

I have had chronic migraine and daily headache for 20 years and have been on various preventive medicines.  They seem to become less effective over time.  Is it a good idea to go back to a previous medication that had worked in the past if my present meds are not working?

Hi Luanne!

I think that preventive medication depends on the person. There are over 100 medications currently being used to treat migraines preventivly.

If something worked for you in the past, you can always ask your doctor to give it a go again if you've been on a holiday from it for a while. It may work, it may not. You may get different side effects then you did the first time, or nothing different at all. The body is a strange thing!

Good luck to you!
