Q: Anyone - raspy/whispery voice and hoarseness after the migraine has subsided?

Anyone experienced a raspy or whispery voice/dry mouth/difficulty swallowing/hoarseness after the migraine headache pain has subsided?  Yesterday - migraine 4 a.m.  Maxalt.  By 10:00 a.m. headache beaten down to dull roar, but voice started to get hoarse  -- progressively downhill all day. I'd get a couple of words out and then it would fade to nothing but a whisper. Didn't get it back full strength until about 8:00 p.m.  No throat pain, just no voice.  Anything anybody?  This has been the new pattern for the last two migraines... oh, joy!  Something new.  :)

Hi Spud,

Any time we have new of different symptoms in our Migraine pattern it is always a good idea to discuss them with our doctor. Give him a "jingle" and let him know what is going on.

Having said that, I've never hear that before with a Migraine, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. But again, please contact your doctor to rule out anything serious.

Good luck

Nancy

Thanks Nancy.  I'm one of those folks whose migraine jumps all over my speech center - so I figured that this was just another in the long history of 'adventures in migraines'.  When I am being attacked, verbal ability becomes really tough - transiting  between stuttering or just flat out nothing coming out -- (my staff now knows how to fill-in the blanks when I lose it!).  The hoarseness has become a larger issue with the whole speech thing.  It used to last anywhere from 15- 45 minutes AFTER the headache -- to now, it's turning into an all-day-sucker.  Since it's getting to be a bigger part of my migraine experience, I thought I'd ask if there were any other folks out there with similar episodes.  (I hate being the odd ball in the group - but, hey, someone has to go there first, right?!)  Anyway.... my family doc is up to speed on the particulars.  He's a good guy, but not a migraine specialist, so whatever information I can point him to is always a good thing for me.

Thanks again for getting back to me.

Does the hoarseness only come with a Migraine? Have you had your thyroid checked lately? Just a thought....

Take care,

Nancy

Nancy,

Yes, it is only after the migraine has subsided.  Otherwise, no problems.  Once the headache simmers down, then the hoarseness comes on.  No throat pain, just no voice.  My thyroid gets the once over at my annual physical (Feb), so no, nothing lately.  Been taking a little bit of levothroxyn to keep things in check since... oh, the late 90's or so.  No significant changes over the last decade.

From all appearances (and test results), I am normal and healthy as a horse... except for that dang "headachy-thingy", oh, and the wild-colored, personal light-shows -- oh, and the raspy voice --- and um, the strange sense of humor.... Tongue out
