Our granddaughter has been given propranolol for her hemiplegic migraines.  She was told by her physician she must never take any triptans. She takes 60mg of propranolol daily.  How does this sound to you?

Propranolol is frequently used for the prevention of Migraine, including hemiplegic Migraine. The specific dosage depends on many things -- her age, other physical conditions she may be dealing with, other medications she takes, and more. If that dosage doesn't help with her Migraines, her doctor may increase the dosage or change to a different medication. It can take up to three months to know if it's working.

If the propranolol doesn't help, there are many other medications that can be used for Mgraine prevention. Verapamil has been shown to be effective for many people with hemiplegic Migraine.

Hope this helps,

Teri
