Q: Need HA Clinic to accept my insurance

My dr is willing to send me to a HA clinic. I have Aetna ins, I don"t know a quick way to go about finding one that will accept that. So far the ones I have called only take Anthem....I need help, have had migraines, CDH for 30 years. I live in Maine, I really don't care how far I have to travel, I cannot function like this anymore. Botox surgery not an option, not covered by ins at all. I cannot count all the different meds I have and am presently taking. Please help. Can't continue like this, isn't living.

Hi Mammie -

I don't know a really quick way to check, but here are a few ideas of how you could put the info together. This site has a listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists which you could check for a list of Headache clinics to try, and then call them and/or check their web sites to find out which insurance they accept. On the other hand you could go on Aetna's web site to see the list of participating providers - chances are they won't list headache specialists but will certainly list neurologists, and you could match the names against the recommended list.

Hope this helps!

Megan-

Thanks so much for this information. I am slowly making my way through the list. I will also check with Aetna as well. Most of the places I have spoken to seem to lean toward Botox surgery immediatly and I am still undecided about that, as well as it not being covered by insurance. I also have CDH and tension headahes, so I really am looking for a facility to be able to evaluate me for all of these. Am I asking for too much? :(   Have you had luck at the places that you have been?

Thank you again for your help, it is much appreciated,

 Mammie

Mammie you are not asking too much! Any good headache specialist can evaluate you for all of your headache disorders. I'm surprised that they would be recommending Botox (or anything) when they haven't even seen you yet, though.

Megan-

Just wanted to let you know that my primary dr has agreed to send me to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. They have a Headache Center there and when I spoke to them, it was explained to me that they will do a total evaluation, tests, scans, etc. They have a team of neurologists, there are two drs who are head of the center, but oversee all of the drs. And, they do accept an participate with Aetna. I spoke to Aetna as well.

I am hopeful that I will get some answers there. The downside ia, that they are booking into April of next year. My dr is going to call me after he has been able to speak with them about an appointment for me. Maybe a cancellation will become available.

Thank you again for your help,

Mammie

Hey, good luck to you! It's not unusual to wait 3-5 months for an appointment with the good headache specialists. I wish it wasn't so... I'm so glad you are getting something set up and that your primary doctor is helping you.
