Q: Which migraine medications contribute to bone loss? I have osteoporosis as well as migraines.

Wow. There are over 100 medications in use for Migraine prevention, plus all the Migraine abortives and pain medications prescribed for rescue medications. I'm sorry, but I don't know of any off-hand that contribute to bone loss, and I can't possibly look up all of them.

 

I have osteoporosis, so that's a concern me me too. What I do is always ask my doctors about that when they prescribe anything for me AND double check it with my pharmacist when I get a prescription of a new medication.

I too have osteoporosis and am concerned that Topomax may have contibutied to this as I am only 45.  It say right on the  package insert- may cause bone disease.
