Q: . My question is can you keep having mild eye symptoms of a migraine for days after a migraine?

I started having migraines with light auras about 3 weeks ago.  The last migraine that I had started with the eye migraine and am still having headache off and on.  I still have eye symptoms it feels like with my right eye being light sensitive feels like it is has a haze or something in it.  I usually don't have a severe headache but my head aches on both side but mostly right.  The other night it seem like light was boring through my eyes even after I turned off the light.  I have been under a huge amount of stress for several months and I have been depressed from other chronic health problems.  I have been taking tylenol and motrin for the last few week at night for leg ulcer pain. Has anybody else had this problem and will it go away? I have had my eyes checked by two eye docotors and they say my eyes are fine. I am very worried about this and would really appreciate and answer.  Thank you in advance.

Hi Ellie,

Sorry to hear about your eye. What kind of eye doctor did you see? Were they optometrists or eye doctors, such as an ophthalmologist? If your eyes check out ok, It may be time to see a Migraine specialist to help figure out what is going on. This doctor is the expert who devotes his entire practice treating patients with one type of disease - ours - Migraines and headaches. Take a look at our patient recommended specialist list to find one.

For purposes of treatment, learning about your Migraines, being able to get care if you're away from home, etc., you need a full diagnosis of what type of Migraine you have. You can read more about this in The Type of Migraine Does Matter.

Good luck

Nancy

Hi Nancy, I saw an opthamolgist who could find nothing wrong with my eyes.  I always thought that migraines caused really bad headaches, I didn't realize they affected your eyes as well.  I am not sure I will be able to find a Dr who specializes in  migraines in my area.  I live in rural area.  Hard to find a good doctor of any sort here. Thanks for your answer, any more info would be appreciated.  Thanks Ellen

Hi Ellen,

There aren't many well-placed Migraine specialists around the country, so some of us may have to travel a ways to find one. Many people on this site work with Migraine specialists and feel it is well worth the time and travel to feel better and get their life back.

If you let me know what part of the country you live in I can try and help you find one.
