Q: I live in the Rochester, NY area and have always been told that the best migraine doctors in NY are

I have been diagnosed with Optic migraines and also run a low fever from time to time during the migraine attack. Please let me know if anyone knows of any doctors in my area. I am on Maxalt now but need the excedrin migraine medicine to make a small dent in the headaches. I have already tried with my doctor(general) the medicines of Topomax, Imitrex, Relpax, Frova, and possiblely more that I can not remember but none of these have worked.

One of the most important things is to get an accurate diagnosis. To simplify matters and make it easier for people to get information and treatment, doctors usually go by the gold standard for diagnosis, the International Headache Society's International Classification of Headache Disorders, 2nd Edition (ICHD-II). Although people often ask what “optic” Migraines are, there’s no such diagnoses under ICHD-II. We do see it used, but doctors use it differently, so it really doesn't tell anyone what type of Migraine you actually have.
