Q: i had a funny sensation in my nose today before the migraine started is this a symptom of migraine?

does sumatriptan help with the nausea from migraines?

Hi Jackie -

 

There are a lot of different sensations that we can experience in either the prodrome or the aura phase before the head pain begins in a Migraine. A funny sensation in your nose could be one of them. I would note it on a diary or calendar and see if it occurs again - it may be useful for you to help know when a Migraine is coming or to share the information with your doctor.

 

As to your question about sumatriptan, what it does is to abort the Migraine process, allowing the Migraine to end much sooner. The nausea would then end along with the Migraine. But it is not a specific drug for nausea. For me it has occasionally increased nausea becasue one of the side effects is a sensation of pressure in the chest and torso and the added pressure on an already nauseous body can make the feeling worse. Not everyone has this side effect, though.
