Q: Flying without getting a Migraine?

Anyone have any tips for flying without getting a Migraine? With the holidays coming up, I'm looking at a couple of trips, and could use all the tips I can get!

Thanks,

this is a strange answer but it works for me ..EARPLUGS and meclazine.. I also make sure I get a very good sleep or nap the day before. Put the earplugs in before the plane takes off and leave in the whole time {tight} in your ear.. It has something to do with the presuure...Try it you'll like itSmile

I fly several times a year and with out fail I used to get a very bad Migraine the day after flying. My new Neuro told me to take Relpax (that's what I use for my Migraines) the day before I fly, the day I am flying & the day after I fly.  In the last year I haven't had a Migraine after flying. Maybe it's just luck, but I will continue this routinue. Thanks,

Flying has always been trying for me but I have learned to fly non stop if possible. The multiple changes in elevation is horrible for my migraines. Another factor is the inconsistent availability of food, which is another trigger for me. I make sure to eat before heading out to the airport which means I can only take afternoon or evening flights since I am not a morning person. Smile Lack of sleep causes so many troubles.

As a preventative measure, I take half of a Treximet and keep them on hand if I start to feel a migraine coming on. I also carry Head on and Dramamine. Let's just say I like to be prepared! While I prefer a window seat, I always try to get an aisle so if strong scents are present-I can breathe away from the person without being obvious.

Hope this helps,

Jennifer

I got a migraine every time I flew. My neurologist told me to take my migraine med (Frova for me) as a preventative before I fly. He told me that flying is a notorious migraine trigger and I can attest to that. I was feeling really cocky last time because I felt my migraines were under control. I flew and didn't take my Frova. I had a migraine by the time we landed. Never again.
