Q: Basic migraines to ice pick

I have had basic migraines for years and am getting treatment for them.  However the last couple of months I have had icepick migraines.  I was just wondering if I could be changing and start to have icepick migraines all the time.  Just wondering if this change happens in people or not.  I am hoping not but havent heard this talked about before.

Hi, Elk Mom,

Do you mean ice pick headaches? You can read more about them in Ice Pick Headaches - The Basics. Ice pick headaches last only a few seconds, and they're not Migraines.

It's not uncommon for Migraineurs to have ice pick headaches.

Have you discussed this with your doctor yet? If not, please do mention it to him or her to be sure of what's going on.
