Sad Hubby,   The visual aura symptoms of Migraine are caused by the Migrainous process in the brain. There really isn't anything for the symptomatic relief of aura that I know of. As far as I know, the only way to aleviate aura symptoms is to take something that can abort the Migraine or wait for them to pass.   One difficult with this is that aura symptoms usually last a relatively short period of time, so many medications don't work fast enough to treat the aura. However, newer research is showing that the triptan medications -- Imitrex, Maxalt, Relpax, etc. -- if taken eary in the aura phase, may stop the Migraine attack before the headache phase begins.   For help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.   Best wishes to you and your wife, Teri
