Q: Atrial fib and migraines

I have both migraines and lone atrial fib. Especially lately I never have one without the other any more. I use metoprolol and coumadin daily, and ibuprofen or midrin as needed for headaches. I don't vomit but am very sensitive to light.

Are these conditions related? I would love to be able to control the migraines in the hope that my episodes of atrial fib will also be controlled. Vise versa does not seem to work. Any thoughts?

Iris,

I don't know of any direct connection between these two conditions.

Something you might consider is finding a Migraine specialist to see, then having that specialist consult with your cardiologist, especially on medications. When&size;you get those two doctors together, they may be able to help you find medications that would help prevent Migraines while treating the atrial fib.

It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Please keep me posted?

Good luck and happy holidays,

Teri
