Q: frovatriptan treatment of menstrual migraine

how can this be?  am reading of a new approach to treating menstrual migraine......2.5 mg of frovatriptan twice a day starting 2 days before menses and continuing for 7 days....but triptans use causes rebound if used more than 3-4 days/week max.....isn't that right?

how can this triptan be used for 7 days straight at full dose?

i'd like to try it because my migraine related to menses is horrific and the last one lasted for 10 days, but i would like more information related to its use for 7 consecutive days.

Hi, Sandra,

I know it seems really strange. It's one of those contradictions that can be so confusing, like the fact that caffeine can be a Migraine trigger, yet it's also a helpful drug for Migraine.

This approach with Frova for menstrually triggered Migraines isn't exactly new. It's been around for a few years. I wish I understood the pathophysiology and pharmacology of this well enough to explain it, but I don't. Talk with your doctor and see if he or she does. Although I don't fully understand how this works, I do know that it does work for some, but not all, women with menstrually triggered Migraines.

Keep me posted?
