useing a anticonvulsant as a preventative only to have it cause you siezures

Hi Terri, my name is jenny, I recently started topamax as my only preventative, I have had really good results with it for a few months, but only recently started suffering seizure, have you ever heard of someone acquirering seizure's from an anticonvulsant, when they have seemingly never suffered epilepsy before. my migriane is , migriane variant. virtignous in nature, no head pain. thankyou.

Hi, Jenny,

 

Did your dosage change shortly before the seizures started? Sometimes, when the dosage in increased or decreased too quickly, there's a chance of seizures. Other than that, I suppose it's possible, but I haven't heard of anyone having that experience. Aslo, did you start or discontinue any other medications at that time?

 

If your doctor doesn't have answers, I'd suggest you check with a neurologist who specializes in seizure disorders.
