I have vertignous migraine, and have found after being on an antidepressant like zoloft for a while, and then going through withdrawal, the migraine cycle breaks for a while , (vertigo leaves) sometimes for months, but soon returns.

what happens in the brain and body after withdrawal, is it that the body hurrys to make new seratonin and floods the body , causing the cycle to break for a while?

or is it that we are carryig less seratonin in our bodys, during the withdrawal faze...

this has happened to me more than once.

I'm so confused!!

thankyou so much.

I am unable to give you an answer that will stop your confusion. I can tell you that the same thing happened to me after being on Zoloft. My migraines come and go so much that I have been keeping a diary of them for 7 years. Sometimes there are more, sometimes less. I went to a neaurologist 124 miles for several months and I still don't have the answers I think we all deserve. Hang in there and good luck. sue

My migraines have never stopped for hell, high water, wind nor sunshine.  BUT...

ZOLOFT in particular, of ALL antidepressants I've ever used, exacerbated my migraines and caused them to be more severe than any other antidepressant I ever tried.  Same with prozac.

Now.  I have taken lexapro and I am currently on pristiq, and I have no problem with either of those two.  It was too bad about the zoloft also, it worked very well for me in terms of mood control, but ouch!!

I would like to take this opportunity to say, as I always do about antidepressants, that they seem to work differently for different people and to cause different side effects according to brain chemistry.  So one person's experience will not mirror another's.

I have had migraines for 36 years.  They are less frequent than 30 years ago but I still hate them when I do get them.  I have been taking 100 mg daily of Zoloft now for about 6 years because of chronic stress headaches.  I tried to cut it in half once and after 3 weeks I had constant headaches again.  I immedidiately went back to 100 mg per day so I can tell you about getting off it completely.

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
