Q: Horrible head pain !! Help

I was in an automobile accident two years ago and ever since I have had the most horrible head pain, it comes almost every two weeks and nothing helps the pain, not even narcotics or mirgraine medicines. It comes on with kinda a stiff neck and pains in my face and especially my eye.  One Dr. thought occipital neuralgia. Another says it's definitely not that.  I've been to every doctor you can think of had lots of tests. I've also tried special diets and gone gluten and dairy free for a whole summer. Does anyone have any help or suggestions !!!

Sharon,

What diagnosis have doctors given you? We can't diagnose or give medical advice, but I have to wonder if these are post-traumatic headaches. That would certainly make sense. For information on these headaches, take a look at Post-Traumatic Headache – The Basics.

I know you've been to many doctors, but have you been to an actual headache specialist It’s important to note that neurologists aren’t necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Special diets and going gluten- and dairy-free might help if these headaches are Migraines, or it might not since darily and gluten aren't triggers for everyone iwth Migraines. And that's not going to help if they're not Migraines. Is there a history of Migraine in your family? Migraines are genetic, so knowing that could be helpful.

Wish I could offer you a more concrete answer, but there just isn't one that anyone can give you other than a doctor who can see you and work with you in person.

Please don't give up hope. Find a good headache specialist to work with.

Teri
