Q: Can wearing glasses be a migraine trigger?

Trying to figure out if this is coincodental or not, but I feel that my migraines may be triggered by wearing reading glasses/sunglasses. If anyone has experienced glasses as a trigger, is it from the weight of the glasses on the bridge of the nose, or is it related to vision disturbances?

Hi Ginger,

If your reading glasses are the wrong prescription that could possibly trigger a Migraine attack. Wearing heavy glasses on the bridge of the nose may trigger an attack for some. It just depends how sensitive the person is. We have information on triggers you may find helpful on this page: Migraine Triggers

Stackable triggers are Migraine triggers that are just that, stacked or cumlative. Not enough sleep for a few nights, weather changes and then wearing sunglasses that are too heavy. These things could trigger a Migraine.  Fay + Stackable Triggers = Migraines for Me!

I hope this helps.

My wife has suffered from migraines for years. Many are triggered by the comon triggers mentioned in the references there are at least 50% which are triggered by her putting on eyeglasses or sunglasses.

This is not a case of the wrong perscription causing fatique and triggering the migraine but she tells me that sometimes within minutes of donning glasses she can feel the migraine starting. Immediately removing the glasses does not help. She has the lightest glasses and goes through many styles of sunglasses to ensure they are light and have no pressure points.

We have been unsuccessful in finding liturature or doctors who can substantiate this correlation or provide a preventative solution.
