Hi,I have been living with migraines since I was 15 and I am 28 now. I never thought to see a doctor for this but this Thanksgiving was the worst because by that point I had a migraine for about 2 days. My mother encouraged me to get seen since it was revealed that she suffers from them too. Anyhow, I was just prescribed Fioricet yesterday and after reading some of the withdrawal symptoms I worry about what I am getting into. I am allergic to Tylenol 3(codeine) but I can take tylenal or codeine by its self and be fine. Plus alergic to anything that alters my serotonin levels (i.e. Paxel) which most preventive migraine meds utilize. It makes my migrains worse.
I was wondering if anyone here knows of other meds that I can take for the pain. What are my options since I am allergic to most of the stuff that is used for treating migraines. Fioricet feels very weak to me, I still have pain but its kind of a constant "background" irritation, but at least it is some-what manageable, plus it makes me very drowsy (I absolutely hate feeling drunk or stoned) I cant afford to feel this way at work and class. I know this is very wrong but I have been in so much pain in the past that a friend was able to give me a norco and it did the trick. It worked very quickly and I had plenty of energy to get things done through out the day without feeling stoned or stupid.
I really worry about the withdrawal symptoms from Fioricet especially the possible seizures since I have had at least 2 in my lifetime and the Doc didn't ask me about a history of it nor did I think to share it. I dont know what my options are, and I wanted to ask if you think It would look bad if I asked my doctor for something stronger and that I have been helped in the past by my friends mom with a norco & it was the ONLY thing that ever worked. I want to be honest with her, but I dont want her to look down her nose at me. What can I do for this throbbing pain?If anyone here can help with sound advice that would be great.
