Q: Hello,I have been a migraine sufferer for 30 years.

I have been a migraine sufferer for over 30 years. In the last few months, I have been waking up in the morning frequently with a BAD headache across the top of my forehead. I have also had an EXTREMELY dry mouth upon waking. Do you know what type of headache this is and what causes it?

Thanks.

Sue

Hi Sue,

An increase or change in our Migraine pattern warrants a conversation with our doctor. More than three Migraine attacks a month also means it is time to discuss preventive medications with our doctor. It is important to reduce the number of Migraines because recent studies have shown people with a long history with and/or frequent Migraines may be at an increased risk for silent brain damage. I wish I had a better answer for you, but since I am not a medical professional, I cannot diagnose you - or tell you what type of headache or Migraine you have. I can tell you that it is possible to have more than one type of headache disorder, like Migraine without aura and Tension-Type Headache. It is important to find the right diagnosis and preventive medication plan. This may mean seeing a Migraine specialist rather than a neurologist. I'm sure your neurologist is a fine doctor, but it's difficult for him to be an expert in any one area because he treats so many different conditions like MS, epilepsy, stroke and Parkinson's. A Migraine/headache specialist treats one area - our Migraines and headaches. Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? Then you may want to look for a Migraine specialist on our patient recommended list HERE.

Good luck

Nancy
