Rebound Headaches and coming off Painkillers.

Rachel
10/19/09

I have been suffering from Chronic Daily Headaches for about 5 years on and off, also migraine's for about 20yrs.

I know realise that i have been in a cycle off over using painkillers! almost everyday for years, and this has maybe caused the CDH, i have stopped taking any sort of painkillers and i have to say it's hell, the headache i know have is terrible, but i feel it will be worth it, also i have stopped drinking coffee, what i need to know is that i am taking 300mg sodium valporate  daily for my migraine's, is that ok to continue taking them or will it contribute to the rebound effect.

Rachel,

No, sodium valproate wouldn't be a problem with overuse. It's a preventive medication, meant to be taken daily.
