my left hand keeps going numb along with my left side of my face

I went to the hospital because my left fingers and hand went numb. before leaving to the hospital the left side of my face went numb as well. I am in my first trimester of pregnancy so I am worried if it could affect my baby. the doctors could not find anything wrong. I get headaches almost daily and the doctors may think that could be something. but there was no diagnosis. does anyone have any information they could pass along to me as why my left side is going numb?

Hi 1sttimemommy!

Are you getting Migraines, or headaches? Does the facial and finger numbness come when the headache does, or at any time?

This could be a lot of things. It could be part of a headache disorder, see Migraines: Where to Start. It could also be a nerve problem. I have had numbness in my face and hands when I pinch nerves in my neck area.

You should make your doctor aware.

Good luck!

Eileen

1sttimemommy,

Do you mean you went to the emergency room? You need to follow up with your own doctors. Particularly, you need to follow up with your OB/GYN regarding your concerns about the baby. We can't tell you if your symptoms were from a Migraine or headache, so you really do need to follow up. Please call for an appointment today?

Would you please come back, and let us know how you're doing?

Best,

Teri

I am a 23 year old Male.  I just recently started a weightloss regiment that includes diet and daily bike riding for cardio excercise.  About 20 minutes ago the tip of my index finger went numb.  I thought it was weird but when it didnt immediately go away and in fact started spreading I got very nervous.  It first spread to the middle finger and then to the ring finger and finally the entire hand went numb/tingly.  I started to freak out when the left sidde of my face (cheek, lip, eye lid and tongue) went numb as well.  I tried calling my neighbor, a neurologist, but got his machine and as I was leaving the message  noticed the numbness in my face going away and the numbness in my hand moving up into my arm (elbow to wrist).  The feeling slowly came back and I have no numbness anymore but I am left with this HORRIBLE head ache. Any idea what this could be?  Sounds similar.  Is this a migranie?  I've never had one before.

okay im a 13yr old male and tht happen to bc i hadent ate tht day but i went to my doctor and he said it was symptems of a migraine starting so if it happens again you are getting a migraine and if it occours often then you need to go to a nerve specalist or a brain specialist and get it checked out

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
