Q: What suggestions do you suggest for a person who has a migraine almost daily?

I take Topamax BID for my migraines to help prevent them but I still have them four or five days a week, I take Imitrex injections and tablets but I still have them with no end in sight. Do you have any suggestions that I might try? I have been to Neurogolists, Chiropractors and my family doctor and not one of them has gave me a solution that gives me any great relief. I have also been to a headache clinic as well as a pain clinic. I need some help!

Hi Theresa,

If you are having four or five Migraines a week while taking Topamax is it either time to adjust your dose, or switch to a new preventive medication. Don't lose hope because there are over 100 medications used to treat Migraine disease. Continue reading our article: Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up!

Getting the right diagnosis and preventive medication plan is what you need now. This may mean seeing a Migraine specialist rather than a neurologist. I'm sure your neurologist is a fine doctor, but it's difficult for him to be an expert in any one area because he treats so many different conditions like MS, epilepsy, stroke and Parkinson's. A Migraine/headache specialist treats one area - our Migraines and headaches. Take a look at this article to see what I mean: Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special?  Then you can look for a Migraine specialist in our patient recommended specialist directory HERE

You've probably been to doctor after doctor and the last thing you want to do is see another one.  But not all "headache clinics"  and Migraine specialists are created equal. It is not uncommon for us to see many different doctors before we finally find one to help us.

I hope this information helps.

Nancy

Have you tried Neourontin? Or the Imitrex Nasal Spray?  It is working well for me.  This website is the a great place to read and explore.  But please keep trying different Doctors until you can sleep at night and feel you have found out all you can.
