Topics:Childrenabdominal migraines

After she eats she complains about her stomach/side hurting. Thought it was her appendix or a stomach ulcer but doctors said no to both. She has been given a liquid by doctors to see what her stomach looks like when full and when emptying. Doctors said will diagnose her with abdominal migranes if can't figure out what is wrong with her. They said they would check to see if it is acid reflux which I think sounds more like what could be wrong than the abd.mig.

Worried stepmom,

Does it matter WHAT she eats? Abdominal Migraine, like other forms of Migraine, can be triggered by certain foods, but not all foods would be triggers for her. You could try an elimination diet whereby you eliminate common trigger foods from her diet, then add them back in, one at a time, to identify food triggers. See Abdominal Migraine - The Basics and Managing Migraine - Migraine Food Triggers for more information.

Doe she have other symptoms? Is there a history of Migraine, "sick headaches," or "sinus headaches" on either side of the family?

Honestly, if her only symptom is her stomach hurting after eating, I'd want a second opinion. It sounds as if they're saying abdominal Migraine for lack of other ideas.
