Q: Topamax no help with migraines. Anyone else?

Has anyone else tried Topamax and had it simply NOT HELP for migraines?  I'm able to tolerate the side effects ok (but word-finding is an issue, a real problem for a Speech Pathologist!) but at 100mg/day (6 months) my headache diary is not showing a positive change.  HOWEVER, we have found that we can finally stop my migraines with a one-day course of Solumedrol (a steroid) 8mg 3 doses 6 hours apart; no triptan works for me.  I'm using the Solumedrol a couple of times a month; keeping careful track but feeling very positive about it.  I know at my next meeting with my neuro we are going to have to decide "up it or leave it."

At 100 mg a day, the effect of the Topamax wasn't that much for my migraines. Seemed to make a minimal effect, even when combined with a beta-blocker at that dose. My neurologist upped it to 300 mg a day, and that's cut my migraines to an average of about 4-5 a month. Word-finding speech issue is the same, even at the higher dosage.

I too recieved no relief from Topmax, Lyrica, Nueronton or Depakot. Corard did not help either. I've been on Cymbalta and Doxipin for over 1 year, to no avail. I have 3+ migraines a week. I've been suffering from migraines for 28 years. 6 weeks ago I started Namenda an Alzheimers drug. I don't know if it's the Namenda of just by chance, but I went 7 days with out a headache, then I had a bad one that Imitrex shots wouldn't get rid of and I ended up having 2 rounds of vistiral, nubane, tordal and DHE before it sudsided, then I went 7 more days without a migraine. I got a bad one and again the imitrex didn't work and I had to have the vistiral, nubane, tordal, DHE route again. Now I'm on a 6 day stretch without a headache.....so I think maybe the Namenda may be working.
