Hi monkey,

I just checked the FDA drug shortage site and there are a couple of different options and answers to this question.

Some Nalbuphine HCl (Nubain) 10 mg/mL; 10 mL vial 'should' available now from Hospira, the manufacturer. The 10 mg/mL; 1 mL ampule isn't expected until the second quarter of 2013; the 20 mg/mL; 1 mL ampule and the 20 mg/mL and the 10 mL vial are expected during the first quarter of 2013.

Hope that helps

Nancy

I have been waiting like alot of you for Hospira to release something... and we have been waiting for a long time now.  I am not sure with them being the only supplier, and with the FDA regs.  why we are still waiting.  They have the corner on the market here and if you go back on the FDA report on this shortage they just keep saying "next month" this has been going on for seven months that I have been waiting.  There are a few thing you can explore though... a compounding pharmacy maybe able to make it or a vet. medical supply place if you can find a way to order it from there... but good luck on both.  I have not been able to go either of those routes.

Jim,

Hello and welcome to HealthCentral!

You make some great points, thanks.

One thing I'd like to comment on is that this isn't an FDA issue. Hospira being the only manufacturer has nothing to do with the FDA. The other companies that were producing it, discontinued it of their own accord. We'd have to ask them why, but I suspect it was related to the demand for it and that demand making it less productive for them to continue.
