I sustained a neck injury in 2005 and ever since I suffer intense migraines or "cervicogenic headach
I had a rhizotomy in July 2008 which was, to me, a Godsend which lasted with no migraines for 4 entire months. However, without warning they returned and even more intense pain. This, unfortunately, is a workers comp case and since California law now puts the decision of medical decisions in the inadequate insurance companies. I once had a gynecologist in San Diego deny my doctor's initial request of injections to my neck. Quite hilarious, but frustrating at that. Anyway, I just would like to hear what medications work for others.
Hi Kimi,
I had neck problems that contributed to my migraines until I began seeing a therapist called a rolfer. They work on the connective tissue between muscles and bones to reshape you - different than a chiropractor or massage therapist. They are hard to find and quite expensive but I've had a lot of success.

Hi Kimi,
Rhizotomy RF uses electromagnetic energy field with very high frequency radio waves (400,000 cycles per second.) These radio waves are used with a knife like instrument or needle - depending on the exact proceedure you have - to burn the nerve. This is a temporary solution because the nerves may grow back. Some patients get relief for a few months, to a year.
If your doctor isn't able to help you, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.
I know how easy it is to feel as if you've tried everything out there, but there are so many medications that can be used for Migraine and headache prevention that it's literally impossible. You can find a list of potential Migraine and headache preventives in Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up!
Good luck
Nancy
