You're right that there's no standard diagnosis of "vertigo Migraine." To simplify matters and make it easier for people to get information and treatment, doctors usually go by the gold standard for diagnosis, the International Headache Society's International Classification of Headache Disorders, 2nd Edition (ICHD-II). Under ICHD-II, there is no diagnosis of "vertigo Migraine." You can read more about the importance of a correct diagnosis in The Type of Migraine Does Matter.

Migraines can occur with no headache. The headache, when there is one, is just ONE possible symptom of a Migraine. For more information on this, see Acephalgic or Silent Migraine - The Basics.

What kind of diet were you given? For Migraine, the only diet I know of is an elimination diet to see if you have food triggers. You eliminate all the foods on the list for a couple of weeks, then add them back in, one food per week, to see if any of them trigger a Migraine. You can get more info on this and a free workbook in Managing Migraine - Migraine Trigger Foods.

If your doctor isn't able to help you, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Please keep us posted on how you're doing?

I hope this helps,

Is this to try to figure out triggers? If so, you start to add the foods back, one per week.

Many of us have done the diet. Some of us find there are some foods we stay away from permanently because they trigger Migraines; others have found that we have no food triggers.

I don't understand though how you're supposed to find what triggers your Migraines while you're having one all the time.

Seriously, if your doctor isn't able to help you make progress, do consider a specialist.

Keep me posted?

Teri
