Q: I'm almost 30. I've been suffering from migraines.. I've never been to a doctor for them.. I went to

Who do I see for these problems(symptoms)?..

 1. Scotoma- areas of decreased or loss of vision

 2. Monocular- one eye (right)

 3. Unilateral location- on one side (right)

 4. Pulsatile quality- pulsing or throbbing

 5. Moderate to severe pain

 6. Aggravation by physical activity and noise

 7. Nausea

 8. Fever

 9. Impaired consciousness with confusion

10. Dizziness- I bump into things and cant walk straight

11. Problems with speech- unable to preannounce words correctly, and sentences come  out backwards.

12. Vision warps

13. Lasts 24hrs and up to a month.. Yes I've had them non-stop for a month.. And when  I go to sleep with the pain I have pain filled dreams. Like someone is beating me in the head non-stop. I cant call them nightmares because I don't wake up scared anymore, it's a norm for me now. When I wake, the pain is in the same spot that I was being hit in my dreams. Now they last up to a week.

14. Taste blood in mouth and feeling like something liquid( heaviness, pulling weight)going from back of head down to mouth. And problems keeping head erect (head tilts back)

15. I get dry mouth - no I do not do drugs and I don't even drink alcohol (hate the taste and value life, its to short. I want to remember it to its fullest that's why I hate these migrains)

16. Very rarely I hear white noise. I cant make anything out. .the noise gets very loud. It masks everything

17. When I take anything for the pain ( Aspirin, Tylenol ect.) I get a disconnecting feeling.. And pain seems to worsen..

Please let me know what type of Doctor to see about these migraines so I can get back to life.. I feel so bad cause I cant function and my husband and dog suffer from me not wanting to go out for hikes and walks..

Thank you for all and any help..

Hi Regina!

You need to see a neurologist or a headache specialist. I think from the symptoms you are describing, it sounds like migraines, but you need to go to a doctor to 1. be diagnosed and 2. get started on a treatment plan.

There are over 100 preventive medications currently being used to treat migraine.

Not to mention, triptans, if you can take them, that stop the migraine process. These are called abortive drugs, because they "abort" the migraine.

If you are getting 3-4 migraines a month, then you would be a candidate for preventive treatment.

Please, call a doctor, see our list and call someone, or if there is no one near you on our list, check out our forum for more help, or call your primary doctor for a referral.

You don't have to suffer with the pain. There are medications that can help you.

Good luck!
