Frova and cholesterol connection

Dear John and Teri,

Thanks for your response.  Now I'm wondering why Frova should not be given to people with high cholesterol.  Is it because Frova constricts vessels??  It is the best migraine medicine I've had and don't know what I could take instead of it, if I have to give it up. I'm presently on Lipitor, fish oil, aspirin, etc. to treat the 50-59% carotid artery problem recently discovered in an ultrasound.  Thanks again to helping me to sort this out.

Dear Lorraine,

Yes, in general, triptans such as Frova are avoided in patients who have blocked blood vessles because the medicaitons do cause some vasoconstriction. High cholesterol is a risk factor for cardiovascular issues such as blocked vessels. Ergotamine drugs such as Migranal and DHE also constrict blood vessels and are also often avoided in patients with any cardiovascular issues.

Ask the doctor treating you for Migraines and the doctor treating you for the blood vessel issues to consult about your medications. Midrin is another Migraine abortive you could discuss with them.
