Topics:migraines with auras

Hi, I've had migraines w/auras since chilhood. I only get them once or twice a year but only get the auras without the headache now, but lately the aura runs it course twice in the row making it last to almost an hour. I get very frustated, they really freak me out! My question is; is there any drugs out there that make the aura disappears? Thanks for your help.

Hi.  I have a very similar history with migraine auras.  My headaches do not match my auras.  I have way more auras than the headaches, and often they are back-to-back.    I have so many that they are more of an uneasy nuisance than anything else.

I tried the drug Topomax which worked wonders for the auras.  In fact, I don't recall having a single full-fledged one after I started the meds.  Unfortunately, other side effects made me stop taking it.  (Although, the weight LOSS was a nice side benefit!)  I haven't found anything else yet.

I also suffer from depression and am having a terrible time just finding ONE doctor who is willing to address both of these RELATED issues.  Anyway, my suggestion is to try Topomax first and start at a small dosage.  Definitely you should see a neurologist to get the prescription.  Good luck.
