Q: life time migraine suffer, tried all preventive meds. nothing works, limited pain relief. help.

I cant think of any preventive meds. I haven't tried nothing works. Tried all natural herbs, homeopathy, chiropractors, physical therapy, cold laser treatment, botox, subliminal messages, relaxation therapy, diet changes, and combinations of all.

I have had headaches all my life, but they have gotten more frequent and severe in the last 5-8 years.

I've seen psychocologist, neurologist, chiropractors, 4 different clinics or hospitals including the head and neck pain clinic in Ann Arbor MI, I live in central Wi.

I suffer 1-2 very severe attacks weekly and up to 4-6 mild attacks monthly. I can go up to 10 days with no headaches  and then get bombarded. they can last from 1-2 hours up to 48 hours.

Imitrex does not work, maxalt works about 50% of the time, Demerol seems to work the best, ketorolac and benadryl are good but the side affects are trouble some. I do all my own injections at home,( demerol, ketorolac, benadryl)

The last 2 attacks the pain meds did not work.

I've had MRI's, CAT scans, heart test, brain scans, and many more test, nothing.

Anybody got any ideas?

Hi bef41302,

It may feel like you have tried everything out that available, but that really isn't possible! Honestly. There are over 100 different medications that are used for Migraine prevention, and if you add up the various combinations the possibilities go up tremendously. You can take a look at this article: Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up!

All Migraine specialists are not created equal either, or some patients and specialists just don't "click." Our list of patient recommended specialists has doctors all over the country you may be interested in looking into. You can see that directory HERE. You may also be interested in this article, that talks about how important it is to see a Migraine specialist: Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special?

Good luck

Nancy

Sounds like the same story as my son of 47 years, except his are not quite as often as yours. His started at 11 years of age after being hospitalized with mononucleosis. He also gets numbness in his left arm and face, etc. at the beginning of a migraine. Our prayers are with you. From Michigan
