I have the exact same thing and several things work for me. I see a chiropractor and physical therapist to work out the area.
The only permanent relief I have EVER had is from Botox. My neurologist found that the knots in my upper shoulders and back of my head are triggering a lot of my migraines so he injected Botox into the knotted muscles. As soon as the Botox took effect, I could tell an immediate difference.
Only problem? I have to pay out of pocket because my insurance won't cover Botox for migraines.
I suffer from the same type of headace just on the right side of my head. The cycle I'm going through now has lasted for over two months. I've seen all types of doctor, been to the ER and am still suffering. I was recently sent to a pain clinic and in January I am to recieve nerve block shots in my head. I wrap a heating pad around my head, take 2 benedryl, and if I have neasua get some dramamine (which you can now get at dollar general for cheap) and I also try a bath as hot as I can stand and just lay down in it.
I hope she gets some relief.
I have gone round and round for years and finally figured out what I thought was a headache (migrane) was the occipital neuraliga. My pain would be at the bottom of my skull and the two sides of the bottom of my skull would swell and the pain would come up and over sometimes. I have had a Facet Joint Radiofrequency Ablation neck. I have been headache free from that area since I had it done!! They deaden the occipital nerve. I am in love with my doctor.
I have put my info up and have finally figured everything myself.

I've struggles for years with what I thought were two different problems - migraines and nocturnal bruxism(teeth-clenching). I've become convinced the two are connected. Does your wife clench/grind at night? wake up with clenched teeth?
There's a dentist who solved this problem for himself and written an interesting theory about it. See: http://www.drjimboyd.com/book/Title.htm . I haven't had a lot of luck with his NTI device which I did get, but I think I'm on the right track with keeping the molars and canines from contacting at night - lots less migraines.

I have had migraines for over 40 years. Having found a doctor that will do surgery to give me some relief is nothing short of a miracle after everything I have tried. Did insurance pay for your surgery? I am trying to get insurance to pay for my occipital nerve surgery and am now going to outside review. They will pay for the surgery on my nose to correct a deviated septum and a swollen conca bullosa but the occipital nerve surgery they say is still experimental. I am looking for further evidence to add to my claim. Any help?
