Q: My mom passes out then when she comes she has slurred speach, paralysis on one side of her body

The doctor said it was Basilar Migraine, but didn't do any test. We never know when one will happen, she will be talking then bam she's out. She stays out around 15 to 30 mins. When she comes to her speech is slurred, she can't move one side of her body, her mouth draws seems like a mini stroke. She can't see a neurologist till July, but just wanted to educated myself on these things. I found the Hemplegic Migraine that matches good with her symptoms. Any info will be appreciated. Thank You.

I have Hemiplegic Migraines.  I have finally been diagnosed!!!

I have been getting headaches for years since I was 12.  I am now 36.  Over the past 2 years, the pain would only be on my right side, and I would get a numbness, in my left pinky and ring finger.  Then in April I had a sharp pain, (my right side)the whole room got dark,  and my whole left arm went numb and my leg was very heavy.  My speach was slurred too.  I got confussed, I was trying to speak and couldn't.  It took me a month to figure out what was wrong.  The doctors in the hospital did not know what it was, because the CT scan and the 10 minute MRI did not show anything, but I could not walk, and my left arm was not working.  So I went to my PCP, and she sent me to a neurologist, which did take about 3 weeks to get in to.  However when I saw her, she was not thirlled with the hospital that "treated"me.  Anyway she asked a bunch of questions about my headaches.  She ordered a MRI and MRA (with contrast) an hour and a half test, an echo with a bubble of my heart and a halter for me to wear for 24 hours.  And so many blood test. When I saw her the 1st time, she told me this is what it is.  but wanted to do some test just to be sure.  once the test came back she prescribe meds, one for prevention and one once one starts. I had another episode on May 22, was rushed to the hospital.  So we uped the prevention meds, and I have been headache free for 5 days, which is huge for me.  Be sure to keep track of every headache your mother has.  Demand test to get done.  I was lucky to have found a good neurologist, however it took me years to find one that listened to me.  Remember I was having migraines since I was 12. and all the other doctors just would perscribe pain killers.   She and you need to be your own advocate.  DEMAND TESTS TO BE DONE!!  That is the only advice I can give you.  It might take a while, but keep on it, also call the neurologist to see if there are any cancelations, that's what I did, and that is how I got in within 3 weeks.  Good luck, and keep me posted  Sorry this is so wordy, I just wanted you to know.
