My is my wife so angry all the time since she started taking Topamax?

My is my wife so angry all the time since she started taking Topamax? She's been taking it for nearly a year. It hasn't changed her migraines at all, but she is so angry so often over little things or nothing at all that I can see.

She didn't want to take Topamax, but her doctor said it was Topamax or nothing. That there are only half a dozen things to take for migraine prevention. Is that true? Anyway, it's a year later, we can't see that the Topamax is doing anything but making her angry, and the doc insists that it could still work.

This is making our whole family miserable. There are times when our kids just avoid her. She gets upset and cries when she realizes how angry she is at nothing.

Please give a desperate family some suggestions?

Thank you,

Jim

This makes me angry for her and you. I took topamax for a year also - at the insistence of my doctor. You know sometimes I think that doctors don't have your best interest at heart. Sometimes I think they just want to be courted by drug companies. Your wife needs to tell your doctor that she isn't taking it anymore period, or find a new doctor. After a few months of being on it, I told my doctor how much I hated it. He lowered my dosage, put me on anti-depressant to cope with the side effects and sent me on my way.

Finally I couldn't take it anymore. The last straw was when I had the worst panic attack. It wasn't worth it anymore, and it never helped with my headaches either.

But I know what you are talking about. Topamax caused a lot of problems between me and my boyfriend. I was very angry, depressed, anxious and neurotic. He even talked ot his mom about it - aparently he told her that he didn't know if we could stay together if I was going to be like that.

I'm so sorry to hear about your problems. It is hard to enough to deal with migraines. Headaches already cause strain on relationships. If topamax isn't working and it hasn't worked for a year - it's time to try something new. I know exactly how your wife is feeling. I felt like I completely lost myself, and that I was constantly going crazy. It's a horrible feeling. I got off topamax in March. I felt like a fog lifted. I'm finally myself again and it's wonderful. Good luck to both of you
