Sara,

-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•*Welcome to MyMigraineConnection!*•-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-

Is your doctor aware of your family history of thrombosis? Did you discuss the potential side effects combined with that family history with him?

If you haven't had that discussion with your doctor, that's absolutely the next thing for you to do. Your doctor needs to acknowledge your concerns and answer any questions you may have. He should also be willing to discuss other medication optons with you. Topamax is not your only option.

There are, in fact, now over 100 medications and supplements that can be used for Migraine and headache prevention. The frustration of trying to find what works for us can make it seem as if we've tried it all, but with so many possible preventives, it's literally impossible to have tried them all. See Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up! for more information.

So, realize that you have options. OK? Discuss them with your doctor.

Would you please let me know how things go?

Welcome again,

Teri

I am currently on Topomax 200 mg 2x day...i am absolutely depressed because my hair is thinning out all over, but the scalp in the center in particular is very very painful (soar). when i press down on the scalp in the center i get this very strange feeling in the frontal lobe eye area and a weird brain feeling (lighhead feeling), and i also noticed on the rt side of my head (right accross from the center a knot (mass) of some sort. I haven't loss a strand of hair at all, but my hair has completely thinned out. When i comb accross the center of my scalp it's as if that area is numb/tingling feeling, and very the scalp is very soft (mushy). I dont know what the mass (hicky/knot) is all about, so i went into see the neurologist today, and of course he claims to not feel the mass, but my husband felt it and the mass can be seen. The neurologist says that the Topomax may be the cause of the hair thinning and the numbing/tingling throughout the body (hands, feet, face, etc), but not sure. so i'm set up to do an Xray of the skull to r/o boney defects, mri of the brain, & lowered the Topomax to 300 mg/day from 400mg/day. I'm so afraid because of what the outcome will be, but i want to know if my hair will regain the texture (srength) ever. Please help me with some of these issues!!! im also scheduled for complete blood work!! Could this be a circulation issue going on in in the brain or scalp?? why does it feel like the center of my head is sinking or sunk??? the scalp in the middle feels like it has no feeling (numbness), but when i press down sharp pain and tenderness appears. Help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
