Nephew, 13 years old.  History of severe migraine headaches (missed school, etc.)  Recently started getting headache on one side of head (from his neck to above his ear) accompanied by a stuffy nose.  Lasts about 10 mins then goes away.  About 2 a day for past 2 days.  Has not been diagnosed by doctor.  Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this.  Thank you.  A Grateful Aunt.

My first real experience with chronic head pain...

Saturday, June 07, 2008

Hi AuntieC,

It sounds like your nephew is having a rough time right now, but is lucky to have an Aunt who cares so much about him.

We have information on Migraine disease HERE and different types of Migraines and headaches HERE.

Getting the right diagnosis is the first step in helping your nephew feel better. That may be done by seeing a Migraine specialist. We have a list of patient recommended Migraine specialists you can see HERE.

The important thing about seeing a Migraine specialist is that they are the experts in Migraine disease and headache disorders. Neurologists may be very good doctors, but aren't usually experts in any one area because they treat so many different conditions. Think of it like this: If a pipe in your house breaks you- call a plumber to fix it- not a carpenter.  A plumber is an expert who only works on plumbing. A carpenter may be able to fix the pipe, but he can also fix and paint the trim, install a door and many other things.

Good luck

Nancy
