Q: what is the best way to use feverfew to prevent migraines?

I thought that feverfew was used as a propholactic to prevent migraines - but see notes here that it can have a rebound effect? Could you please explain hte evidence for this? In what way should feverfew be used safely (I was told by a neurologist to take it daily to prevent migraines...)

Hi Migraine sufferer,

We've see both butterbur and feverfew be very effective for some people. I wanted to remind everyone though that it's important to talk to your doctor before taking any supplements, whether you take other meds or not. Supplements have much less stringent regulations, and I've see supplements on sites that give you not information about potential side effects.

An especially important note on feverfew is that it's not recommended for anyone who
is or might become pregnant because it can cause miscarriage.

Supplements for Migraine - They ARE Drugs may answer some of your questions too. Feverfew needs to be tapered off slowly to avoid rebound.

I hope this helps,

Nancy
