Topics:Migranes are ruining my life

I am a frequent migrane suffer.  I am in severe pain from a migrane everyday or at least every other day.  They are so painful and effect my daily activities and interfer with my work. All i want to do is sleep and lay down and shut my eyes to get away from the pain just for a little bit. I have been missing work once a week since i can remember over this. I was in the ER saturday night with an IV in me and then back again in the doctors office a few days later to treat another severe migrane.  Seems like they just keep getting worse every day and nothing seems to help becasue i have tried every medication out there.  I am on Inderall LA and i take it every morning and night to prevent my headaches and yet I still get them everyday. I wonder what I would be like if I wasnt on daily medication if this is how I feel on it!!! I take 80 mg in the morning and again at bed time.  My head is constantly sore even if i do not have a headache. I am at a loss for what to do at this time.   I just want to get rid of them or just not have them every week.  I am going to a chiropracter right now 3 times a week and im getting ready to try accupuncture.  I have taken muscle relaxers, perscription pain pills, over the counter excedrine, ice and heat packs ect....you name it, and tried every home remedy out there. Im tired of carrying an ice pack around on my head all day long at work and at home and suffering day in and day out. Please help me get some relief.

Jenna,

It's time to cut to the chase and get yourself to a good Migraine specialist for help. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

If you're taking Migraine abortive meds such as triptans or any kind of pain med more than two days a week, a big part of your problem may well be medication overuse headache (MOH), aka rebound. See Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires for more information on this. If you're in an MOH situation, nothing you take is going work, and you need to work with your doctor to stop the medications causing the problem.

Anyone who has more than three Migraines a month needs to be taking something for prevention. There's growing evidence that Migraine is a progressive brain disease. A recent study showed that Migraines can cause brain damage, and that people with three or more Migraines a month are more susceptible to this damage. For more information, see Is Migraine a Progressive Brain Disease? and Yes, Migraines Can Cause Brain Damage.

I know how easy it is to feel as if you've tried everything out there, but there are so many medications that can be used for Migraine and headache prevention that it's literally impossible. You can find a list of potential Migraine and headache preventives in Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up!

You're obviously going through a rough time. If you'd like some additional support, come join our discussion forum. You'll need to register again once there because it's a separate membership database, but you can use the same member name, email address, and password that you used here. You can find our forum at http://forums.healthcentral.com/discussion/migraine/forums.

Jenna, I know I've given you a lot of links here, but this is all information that will help you work with your doctor to find an effective treatment regimen. The more we know, the more we can do to help ourselves.

Best of luck,

Teri
